Caroline Binder has a beautiful home, a functioning marriage and a chronically ill heart. Heart specialist Paul Hoffmann promises his patient a cure through a new surgical method - and he keeps his promise. Caroline can get well and lead a normal life; then everyone would be happy - except for Caroline herself. She doesn't want to be able to say goodbye to her previous life in a gentle way without excitement or responsibility. Worse still, she neither wants her heart healthy, nor does she want her new life.
